I came to Croatia Summer ’18 (last year) and totally and utterly fell in love with it. It was the bus from Dubrovnik ferry port to Dubrovnik old town where I said to myself ‘I would love to do a roadtrip along the coast from Split to Dubrovnik in a Campervan’. One year on – that’s exactly what I did!
I spent 10 incredible days in the National Parks and along the coastline of Croatia and below is my breif Itinerary along with a little photo gallery!
Croatia is an absolute must-see and I hope the below pursuades you if it’s not already on your hit list of destinations!

DAY 1. KRKA NATIONAL PARK
I wasn’t able to visit Krka National Park when I visited this beautiful country last year so it was absoutely on the list for this trip!
We picked up the Camper from Indie Campers (one of the best campervans I’ve ever rented!) and headed straight for the National Park. The drive took us around 1.5 hours. As it was already the afternoon we headed straight for the Lozovac Car Park which was the best spot to be to enter the Waterfalls for the following morning. Also a perfect freedom camping spot if you’re looking for a free place to stay!
The entry fee was 200 Kuna (£24) or 300 Kuna (£35) for a 3 day pass. (We got the 3 day one because we arrived in the afternoon and wanted to head to the north of the park the following morning)
Krka is absolutely beautiful and we spent the whole day walking around the park before heading onto another spot in the afternoon!
TOLL ROAD: There’s a toll road into every National Park in Croatia. The toll from Split to Krka was 22 Kuna (£2.60).
DAY 2. ROŠKI SLAP, KRKA NATIONAL PARK
North of Krka National Park is a beautiful area called Roški Slap where there’s a stunning lake to swim in! (you can also get a boat up the river from Lozovac).
After a morning swim, we headed to Plitvice National Park – this took us around 3 hours. We stayed in a campsite for the night as I needed to charge my camera batteries!
The campsite was called Camping Plitvice and was the nicest campsite i’ve ever stayed in! It was right in the centre of the National Park and only a 10 minute drive to one of the entrances to the Plitvice Falls. It was £30 for an electric hook-up campervan spot. (Freedom camping isn’t allowed in the National Park but I’m sure there’s places just outside where it’s possible to!)
TOLL ROAD: The toll from Krka to Plitvice was 78 Kuna (£9.30)
DAY 3 – PLITVICE NATIONAL PARK AND DRIVE TO THE COAST
We drove to Entrance 1 where we walked down to the waterfall and around the walkway – you could easily spend a whole day here – it is absolutely beautiful!
We decided to head back to the camper in order to do the longest drive of the trip back down south to the coast! It took us around 4 hours from Plitvice to south of Split.
Stayed in a car park on the beach just south of Podstrana next to M Caffe. They don’t close the car park so you can freedom camp here!
DAY 4 – OMIŠ
After a morning spent in the crystal clear waters that Croatia has to offer, we made our way further down the coast to a beautiful town of Omiš. One of my favoutite towns we stopped in on this roadtrip!
Make sure you head up the Fortress, it offers beautiful views down to the town. If you have the opportunity to also head inland up the river, it’s worth seeing! There’s lots of walks to be done around Omiš so definitely worth checking out if you have time! We then drove on to Autocamp Krvavica where we swam in the sea and camped for the night. Great set up with Electric Hookups and great shower/bathroom facilities!
DAY 5 – KRVAVICA TO SLANO
We drove from Krvavica to Slano which took aorund 3 hours and crosses the boarder through Bosnia – leave a bit of time here as I can imagine it can be busy during peak season! The drive itself is beautiful as you head inland from the coast and through the mountains.
After arriving in Slano, we searched around for a freedom camping spot and found an absolute gem! We spent the afternoon swimming and relaxing on our private beach :’)
DAY 6 – SLANO
I am the worst culprit for thinking I have to be moving and non stop when on a roadtrip because there is always something to see or do! But today, we decided to spend the whole day relaxing and swimming in the beautiful waters and taking in the small but very stunning town of Slano.
DAY 7 – THE ISLAND OF KORČULA
We left our little freedom spot and drove from Slano to Trstenik where we spent the afternoon on the beach before driving to Orelić where we got the ferry over to the island of Korčula – we stayed in a beautiful campsite called Camp Vrbovica – a really beautiful quiet campsite where you can watch sunset and swim right on the campsite doorstep. 140 kuna a night (£16.80) – non electric hook-up.
DAY 8 – VELA LUKA
We packed up and headed for a drive across the whole of the island to the otherside to a place called Vela Luka – this is where you get the ferry back to Split, the mainland of Croatia.
After driving around for a while, we found another perfect freedom camping spot next to Hotel Adria. It was off peak season to the hotel was closed – there was nothing else up the hill so it was the perfect spot to camp for 2 days!
DAY 9 – EXPLORE VELA LUKA
Today the weather took a turn for the worst and was a complete storm for the whole day! We explored Vela Luka and then jumped on the laptops and worked for pretty much the whole day from a cafe called Caffe Bar Inglezo – they have plug points and great WiFi!
DAY 10 – FERRY BACK TO SPLIT
We woke up super early and caught the 6.15am ferry back to Split. It was a very expensive ferry being 860 Kuna which is £103 – this was a price for a campervan that was 5-7meters. We dropped off the camper and spent the rest of the day by the beach in Split.
Split is a beautiful city to explore and you can easily spend a few days walking around the streets. There’s lots of markets, cafes and restaurants.
