I came across Spell whilst travelling in Australia 3 years ago. Since then, It has been a brand I have always wanted to work with. At the beginning of this year, I spent 3 months in Byron Bay. I was lucky enough to shoot their new ‘The Journey’ Collection and it was the absolute dream.
Starting in the afternoon, we set up a mini festival in the garden with an absolute dream team of beautiful ladies. The idea of this shoot was to keep it as candid and relaxed as possible – the lovely ladies were all wearing different pieces from the collection. Moving around them and the set up, I photographed as they danced and enjoyed the afternoon sun. It was the perfect mix of late afternoon sun and a light breeze.
Now and again I would bring one of the ladies to the side to focus on their specific dress and make sure I was capturing detailed shots as well as full length shots.
The colours of the pieces alongside the set up of the mini backyard festival was a recipe for a perfect shoot. I was able to create backlit shots as the sun set behind the models and direct sun as I moved around to the other side.
As the sun started to disappear on the horizon, we made our way inside to create some ‘after festival’ feel photos. Imagine you and your friends have just had the most epic day at a festival and you come home to drink some more and play your favourite tracks on the record player – that’s the vibe we were after.
It was an absolute dream to shoot with Spell and I can’t wait to get back to Australia later this year and shoot with them again!
